The difference is there, and you can start to see what the APD filter is trying to do, but it’s arguable whether or not it’s better. This was my first test shot as I thought it would definitely be the answer to how different the bokeh is between these two lenses. This might be the perfect season to test bokeh, what with all the twinkle lights and decorations. Let’s see how much better the bokeh really is with this extra 500-dollar piece of glass. The price alone is enough to beg the question, “is it worth it?” Bokeh PriceĪt $1,499, the APD is a full 50% more than the the 56mm f/1.2 regular, and with current rebates- something I still think is a bad idea for Fuji-it’s almost twice the price to preorder. In good light, in the studio or in prefocused situations, this simply does not matter, so what it will come down to is whether or not the difference in bokeh that the APD makes is worth the price premium, our third and final compromise. I’ve missed a few genuine expressions already waiting for the APD to acquire focus. Move into poor light though, and you could easily find your APD hunting, pushing past focus, and then dragging itself through its focus range before finding the area of most contrast. ![]() In good light, it isn’t terribly noticeable. The biggest compromise in choosing the APD is the loss of Phase Detect AF. Depth of field and “bokeh”-the quality in which a lens renders out of focus backgrounds-are different things. It must be noted that while the light gathering is impacted by the APD filter, all other aspects of the wide aperture like depth of field are not. This makes perfect sense given the appearance of the APD filter, which looks like a circular graduated neutral density filter. ![]() Billingham Hadley SmallĪs you can see the amount of light lost by the APD filter goes down as the lens is stopped down. 6.1 for X-Trans Best X-Trans RAW Converter Long Exposure Photography Tips Heavy Issues Mirrorless vs DSLR weight Adobe’s Fujifilm Camera Calibration Profiles Film Simulation Modes Compared Fujifilm Metering ONA Bowery vs. Extras Fuji Filter Thread Sizes Lightroom 5.7 vs.Reviews Fujifilm X-T3 Fujifilm X-H1 Fujifilm X-T2 Fujifilm X-Pro2 Fujifilm X-T1 Fujifilm X-T10 Fujifilm X70 Fujifilm X30 Fujifilm GFX 50S Preview XF 14mm F2.8 XF 16mm F1.4 WR XF 18mm F2 XF 23mm F1.4 XF 35mm F1.4 XF 35mm F2 WR XF 56mm F1.2 (APD) XF 10-24mm F4 OIS XF 16-55mm F2.8 WR XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 OIS XF 50-140mm F2.8 OIS WR MCEX-11 & MCEX-16 Extension Tubes VPB-XT2 Vertical Power Booster Grip Fuji MHG-XT Hand Grip Artisan & Artist Silk Strap LumaLabs Loop 3 Nucis Leather Straps.Lens Versus Wide Angle Primes Standard Zooms Telephoto Zooms 10-24mm F4 vs.X20 Interchangeable Lens Body Spec Comparison Fixed Lens Body Spec Comparison
